Improvise

During this crazy time (yay COVID-19), there are many changes we are forced to make in our lives. We are now told what is considered “essential” and “nonessential.” Wear gloves and masks everywhere, though the education on this seems to be lacking. (Wear a mask to protect others from you. Gloves don’t protect you from squat if you touch everything with them. They aren’t magical pieces of anti-COVID.) Parents are now the teachers. I get it that teachers are working hard to help parents teach their children. The problem is my child is a holy terror during class time at home. Also I don’t have the education required to teach my child. Giving me a “how to” isn’t the same thing. I have resorted to video game killing to reduce stress brought on by it.

We have begun to improvise our daily lives.

  • Eating out is now more a picnic at home activity rather than restaurant experience. Restaurants are meeting us at our cars to hand us food and take payment.
  • Parents are now teaching children. REALITY CHECK! We suck at it. We sure are trying, but we’re improvising. We don’t understand their math. We are teaching them out way, which is TOTALLY different from the NEW way.
  • People are making masks out of EVERYTHING. I’ve seen funny ones online using bras, but many people are using folded handkerchiefs and hair ties.
  • Stay-cations that feel indefinite: pretending home is Disney World.
  • Buying food that isn’t being horded.
  • What the CRAP are we supposed to use for the TP that is NOT available on the shelves? Not sure I’m ready to improvise using socks, paper towels, wadded up paper, etc.

My point is that we as a nation as HUMANS have had to improvise our lives due to social distancing protocols and lock-downs. Whatever effect this crazy mess has on your life right now, you’re not alone. It will eventually be okay – probably. Either way, take it one step at a time. Do what you can to enjoy what you have and who you have. In the end, we’ll go back to the regular grind. Will be be better for it? I sure hope so.
